|OFFICIAL WHITE HOUSE CHINA|
FIRST LADY DOLLEY MADISON
- 1806 - 9.5 x 12" - A PAIR OF - EXTREMELY RARE LOZENGES SERVING DISHES, from The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection
- Mfg by Nast’s Factory Paris. This Official White House China was brought by James Madison into Official Use in 1814, following extensive
renovation, after the British burned the Executive Mansion in 1812. A previous
small accumulation of Official White House China, from the previous three
Presidents, was destroyed by the British during the War of 1812, as they
wantonly sacked and burned The Executive Mansion.
In January 2010, research by Curator Grant Quertermous, of Montpelier (The Home
of James Madison), as well as the Curator of The White House, Bill Allman and
Raleigh DeGeer Amyx; reveal that out of the original order of this Madison Pattern
in 1806, of 231 Pieces, Only 30 original pieces remain of the original Madison's rare porcelain order. 5 Pieces of the original order are in the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection - 8 Reside at The White House - And 3 Pieces of the original Madison order rest at Montpelier, the Home of James Madison. In addition, one or more pieces reside at The Philadelphia Museum of Art as well as within the National Museum of American History. Research is on-going to determine, with certainty, the exact geographic location of these rare remaining 14 pieces of Official Madison White House China. Nearly all of the 14 remaining are also accounted for. This latest information of the total accounted for original order of James Madison was concluded in 2014.
A major renovation of This Founding Father's Home has been on-going in
Virginia - with a Staff of about 100 Professionals, excavating and restoring
The Madison Home and site. The Madison Home is being refurbished and restored to
its original 18th Century appearance. All free Americans should avail themselves
of the opportunity of visiting The Montpelier site and home of
The Father of America's Constitution - James Madison.
QUERTERMOUS AND RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX MAKE A
CONCENTRATED STUDY OF HISTORIC DISCREPANCIES IN THE
CALLIGRAPHY PLACED ON THE FRONT OF ONE OF MADISON'S
LOZENGES SERVING DISHES SOMETIME IN THE 19th CENTURY.
|Pictured above is The Assistant Curator, Grant Quertermous of The Home - Montpelier - of James and Dolley Madison. He is seen with Raleigh DeGeer Amyx, in June of 2010, as they carefully studied the only pair of Lozenges Serving Dishes that James and Dolley Madison ever ordered - in 1806. Both Rare examples are in the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection. After encouragement and consultation with Mr. Quertermous, serious consideration is being given by Mr. Amyx, of placing one of the two examples shown on temporary loan to Montpelier, for display in the Home of The Fourth President of The United States.|
