James K. Polk Dinner Plate
James K. Polk - Circa 1846 - 9.5 inch Soup Bowl - Manufactured by Edouard D. Honore’, Champroux, France – Note: Shield at the top center – The first time red,
white and blue colors were ever used on Official White House State Dinner
China. Shortly after his Inauguration, President Polk asked his close friend
William Corcoran (1798-1888), to supervise the furnishing of The White House.
Thus, it was Corcoran that was believed to be responsible for the purchase of
The new Official State Dinner Service, in 1846. The Polk Service decoration
includes, on the border of most pieces, a polychrome shield of The United States behind the national motto on a floating ribbon/banner.
