In June 1869, Mrs. Grant was on full steam ahead to order State Dinner China; and did so through a Washington D.C. Dealer, J. W. Botler and Bros, located a mere 12 Blocks Down Pennsylvania Avenue. They had been supplying miscellaneous china to the Executive Mansion for several years and they ordered the Grant China from Haviland and Company as Haviland had been winning prizes in World Exhibitions; Especially in the Great Exhibition held in London in 1851.

THE GRANT'S IN REPOSE

When the State Dinner China finally arrived, it consisted of only 587 pieces with Flowers and a Top Center Logo - Known As The “Coats Of Arms”. According to The White House Curator William Allman, the above Piece, now in The Amyx Collection, is as fine of an example of Ulysses S. Grant Official White House China as he had ever seen. According to Mr. Amyx, major assistance on the part of Historian Bob Doares took place, as he played a significant role in the acquistion of this rare example .
